The afternoon of October 28,Peking University's Boya Chair Professor、Ministry of Education's Cheung Kong Scholars chair professor、a member of the Central Research Institute of Culture and History, Pingyuan Chen was invited by College of Chinese Language and Literature to give a lecture entitled "Construction of literary History under the background of cold War" in the lecture hall on the second floor of the Science museum. This lecture was presided by Professor Aihe Guan. Undergraduate and graduate students were attracted to the fame, and there was a full house with a strong academic atmosphere. Professor Pingyuan Chen started this lecture from three aspects: globalization and its crisis, new China's higher education under the background of cold War, and the construction of literature history in China, Eastern Europe and North America. At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Chen gave a detailed explanation on the crisis in the current era of globalization and how to study in the era of anti-globalization. Through wang Yao's New Literary History of China, Pushke's Lyric and Epic, and Xia Zhiqing's History of Modern Chinese Fiction, Professor Chen had shown students how academic researchers who were active in the cold War had gained rich research results through their own thinking. While introducing his works, Professor Chen summarized two characteristics of Yao Wang's studies in a simple and profound way, as well as the influence of Prague structuralism behind Pushk's pursuit of "scientific literary method". When talking about Zhiqing Xia's academic style, Professor Chen saw both Mr. Xia's strengths and some of his weaknesses. Professor Chen quoted Ruoyu Liu as saying that "a critic without prejudice has no literary interest." He encouraged students not only to study problems with an equal and broad vision, but also to have their own opinions and the ability to think independently in academic research. Afterwards, Professor Chen gave his own Suggestions on the learning environment of contemporary college students and how to conduct academic research in this environment. He hoped that young people should do things in a timely manner, and when your body and ability allow it, try to achieve your goals without leaving any regrets. Professor Chen also encouraged people not to complain about external conditions, but to try to carry forward the academic spirit of Chinese scholars in the 1950s and 1960s under difficult circumstances, follow the example of the former role models to constantly improve themselves and become a qualified scholar in the context of a world in which China is undergoing great changes not seen in a century. In the interactive link, students actively asked questions about their learning, and Professor Chen answered them and communicated with them harmoniously. Professor Chen's lecture was full of content, his language was humorous, logical and clear, inspiring and attractive, showing the unique academic vision and profound thinking level of first-class scholars.
